Responsibilities
- Build scalable systems for training and fine-tuning large-scale generative models that produce realistic and evaluable driving behaviors.
- Implement and iterate on reinforcement-learning algorithms, reward functions, and training paradigms for high-fidelity driving behaviors.
- Develop deep-learning and generative AI solutions, including LLM/VLM systems, to automate high-volume workflows and analyze self-driving behavior for critical anomalies.
- Oversee the production and optimization of machine-learning models used to assess Waymo’s fleet of vehicles.
- Develop an RLHF-based data collection and evaluation system using industry and Alphabet best practices.
- Collaborate with Prediction, Planning, Research, technical leads, and senior leadership on strategic initiatives.
Requirements
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience developing and applying machine learning models, with significant reinforcement-learning experience.
- Expertise in deep learning, sequence modeling, and generative models.
- Strong publication record or impactful project delivery in reinforcement learning or related areas.
- Proficiency in Python and standard machine learning frameworks such as JAX and TensorFlow.
- Experience with large-scale distributed training and data processing.
- Ability to lead complex and ambiguous technical projects from conception to completion.
- Preferred: 7+ years of relevant machine learning or reinforcement-learning research and application experience.
- Preferred: experience in autonomous vehicles, robotics, or complex simulation environments.
- Preferred: understanding of reinforcement-learning techniques for fine-tuning large models using human feedback or preferences.
- Preferred: familiarity with large-scale simulation platforms and their integration with machine-learning training workflows.
- Preferred: experience designing and using metrics for evaluating complex AI systems.
- Preferred: technical leadership, senior-stakeholder influence, cross-team innovation, and strong communication skills.
