Base Salary
$143k - $304k/yr
Responsibilities
- Identify significant product opportunities and systemic engineering problems and set technical direction.
- Prototype, implement, test, and debug difficult technical approaches to guide architectural decisions.
- Lead cross-team delivery across Microsoft and GitHub, including resolving architectural disagreements and clarifying API boundaries.
- Own outcomes beyond release through adoption metrics, quality signals, evaluations, experiments, and user feedback.
- Improve engineering effectiveness through testing strategies, performance work, shared design patterns, and experimentation tools.
- Lead technical discussions, investigate community-reported issues, and collaborate with developers and extension authors.
- Mentor senior engineers and technical leaders and help them develop judgment and ownership.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field and 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in JavaScript, TypeScript, Rust, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft Cloud and other applicable customer or government security screening requirements.
- Preferred: 10+ years of software engineering experience architecting, delivering, and evolving complex production software.
- Preferred: demonstrated technical leadership across multiple teams without relying on reporting-line authority.
- Preferred: hands-on coding and design skills with large TypeScript and Rust codebases.
- Preferred: experience designing shared platforms, APIs, or large application architectures with attention to extensibility, compatibility, performance, and maintainability.
- Preferred: product judgment, mentoring experience, clear communication, and experience with developer tools, open-source projects, AI products, interactive applications, cross-platform architecture, experimentation, or AI coding tools.
Benefits
- Typical U.S. base pay range is USD $142,800-$274,800 per year; a separate range applies in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area.
- Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
- The position is open for a minimum of 5 days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until filled.
- The role requires passing a Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years.
