Base Salary

$145k - $165k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement ATAK plugins, features, and integrations in Java.
  • Lead the full development lifecycle for ATAK-based application solutions.
  • Plan release goals, timelines, and development cycles with the manager.
  • Assist with sprint planning for junior developers and review their code.
  • Mentor junior developers and support their skills development.
  • Author build instructions, testing instructions, release notes, and other technical documentation.
  • Contribute to official TAK repositories and coordinate with external stakeholders and TAK community initiatives.
  • Create UI assets and optimize interfaces for austere and high-intensity environments.
  • Apply MAVLink, Link 16, and OMNI protocols to develop secure cross-platform interoperability solutions.
  • Evaluate and integrate UAS systems into TAK workflows.
  • Participate in client-facing engagements, gather stakeholder feedback, and deliver product demonstrations.
  • Implement secure data handling, network configuration, and user access-control practices.
  • Coordinate with software, hardware, and operations teams to align TAK capabilities with organizational objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of software development experience with a strong focus on Java.
  • At least 5 years of Android development experience, including Android Studio, Android SDK, Gradle, and Jetpack libraries.
  • Ability to integrate C++ code into Android applications using the Android NDK and JNI.
  • Experience implementing encryption, authentication, and secure communication methods in restricted environments.
  • Background in secure DevOps practices, test automation, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • High proficiency with Android architecture fundamentals, including the Activity lifecycle, Services, Broadcast Receivers, and Content Providers.
  • Customer-facing communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance are required.
  • Preferred: deep TAK ecosystem knowledge, including ATAK, TAK Server, plugin development, and system integration.
  • Preferred: knowledge of Cursor-On-Target message formats and sub-schemas.
  • Preferred: experience building and maintaining ATAK/TAK solutions and working with the TAK Product Center.
  • Preferred: defense or tactical UX experience and understanding of operator workflows and constraints.
  • Preferred: experience with RTSP and SRT real-time video streaming systems connected to TAK platforms.
  • Preferred: knowledge of unmanned aerial systems, flight dynamics, sensor feeds, and communication protocols.
