Base Salary
$162k - $290k/yr
Responsibilities
- Set the technical direction of the Maps teams and partner with engineering leadership on major technical investments and tradeoffs.
- Build geospatial systems, integrations, data ingestion and processing pipelines, map-serving systems, and APIs supporting foundational features across Samsara products.
- Scale storage, querying, and computation for real-time location-dependent features.
- Consolidate team-specific geospatial solutions into scalable platform-wide offerings.
- Build agentic solutions that let customers self-serve the data they want to see.
- Raise the technical bar through code reviews, design discussions, mentorship, external talks, open source, and community engagement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of software development experience, including at least 2 years in an architect or technical leadership role.
- Strong programming and software design fundamentals.
- 4+ years working on large-scale distributed systems.
- 4+ years leading technical projects across multiple teams.
- Preferred experience with GIS, spatial analysis, PostGIS, spatial SQL, GeoPandas, Shapely, QGIS, and geospatial data validation.
- Preferred familiarity with GeoParquet, OpenStreetMap, OSM PBF, and ingesting, transforming, validating, or serving geospatial datasets.
