Responsibilities
- Own systems engineering and product ownership activities for Flight Operations Software spanning spacecraft commanding, real-time telemetry processing, ground systems, and mission operations.
- Translate mission, spacecraft, ground, and operational needs into software capabilities, Epics, User Stories, and Acceptance Criteria.
- Prioritize the FOS development backlog across mission needs, architecture, technical debt, integration dependencies, and operational priorities.
- Develop and maintain system architectures and MBSE models defining behaviors, interfaces, dependencies, and operational flows.
- Define and maintain service APIs and interfaces between FOS and adjacent ground-system services.
- Drive technical decisions and trades across spacecraft, ground, flight software, mission operations, and software development teams.
- Partner with software engineers through design, implementation, integration, verification, deployment, and operational use.
- Identify architectural, interface, and integration risks and drive cross-functional resolution.
- Support integration and verification of FOS capabilities across spacecraft, ground, and operational interfaces.
- Contribute to enterprise architecture, engineering practices, and the long-term mission-systems architectural roadmap.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a United States Government Secret Security Clearance are required.
- Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, aerospace engineering, computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, or another relevant technical discipline is required.
- At least 5 years of relevant industry experience developing, integrating, or operating aerospace, spacecraft, ground, command-and-control, or similarly complex technical systems is required.
- Working knowledge of spacecraft command-and-control and space-to-ground architectures, including commanding, real-time telemetry flows, and spacecraft-ground-flight software interactions.
- Experience across systems architecture, requirements, interfaces, integration, verification, and operational deployment.
- Experience applying Model-Based Systems Engineering to define architectures, interfaces, behaviors, and dependencies.
- Experience defining and maintaining service APIs and interfaces in service-oriented or distributed software systems.
- Experience translating stakeholder needs into software capabilities, requirements, Epics, User Stories, Acceptance Criteria, and prioritized development work.
- Experience with Agile software development and direct collaboration with software teams across the development lifecycle.
- Strong technical judgment, cross-disciplinary decision-making, communication, ownership, initiative, and accountability.
- Preferred experience with spacecraft flight operations software, mission control systems, ground software, command-and-control systems, or flight-system integration and operations.
- Preferred experience with distributed, service-oriented, event-driven, or mission-critical systems and architectures such as REST, gRPC, or publish/subscribe.
- Preferred experience with CCSDS, Space Packet Protocol, CFDP, real-time telemetry pipelines, system models, interface definitions, API specifications, sequence diagrams, or state models.
- Preferred experience with SysML and MBSE tools such as Ansys, Enterprise Architect, or Cameo Systems Modeler.
- Preferred familiarity with containerized services, automated testing, cloud or hybrid infrastructure, Jira Cloud, product roadmaps, and high-reliability operational systems.
