Base Salary

$140k - $231k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Set engineering quality standards, drive architectural decisions, and provide hands-on technical guidance to engineers.
  • Design, build, and maintain core Developer Workbench platform components across the full development lifecycle.
  • Lead the technical direction and roadmap for the Developer Workbench and guide collaborative technical decision-making.
  • Integrate and govern developer tools, including lifecycle management, evaluations, and deprecation of redundant solutions.
  • Partner with product owners, platform teams, security, compliance, and engineering stakeholders on platform priorities and requirements.
  • Design and deliver developer enablement features such as onboarding flows, self-service tooling, and feedback integrations.
  • Architect pre-provisioned development environments that enable new hires to become productive within 30 minutes.
  • Advance AI-augmented development capabilities, including agentic coding tools, code assistants, and automated quality pipelines.
  • Define instrumentation and metrics for developer productivity, satisfaction, tool adoption, onboarding time, and platform health.
  • Contribute to the Software Engineering Guild by sharing technical expertise, mentoring engineers, and raising engineering standards.

Requirements

  • Proven track record as a technical leader among peers through code reviews, design feedback, pairing, and shared ownership.
  • Strong software engineering background with hands-on experience in platform engineering, developer tooling, or enterprise-scale developer experience products.
  • Ability to decompose complex technical problems, communicate tradeoffs, and build shared understanding across engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code; containerization and development environments including Docker Desktop, Kubernetes, and DevContainers; CI/CD tools including GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and ArgoCD; and developer portals such as Backstage.
  • Experience with AI-powered developer tools in regulated enterprise environments, including policy compliance, access controls, and responsible AI usage.
  • Experience designing and delivering standardized, pre-provisioned development environments at scale.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS, Azure, GCP, infrastructure automation, and cloud-native development patterns.
  • Experience using instrumentation, metrics, and feedback mechanisms to guide technical decisions and adoption.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including facilitating technical alignment with non-engineering stakeholders.
  • Fluency with software development productivity metrics such as DORA metrics, onboarding time, and tool adoption rates.
  • Strong command of Agile/Scrum methodologies and SDLC best practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous, fast-evolving technology environments.
