Responsibilities
- Own the technical architecture of the agent-readable Shop Builder platform and determine its API, SDK, MCP, and CLI surfaces.
- Define and maintain public interface contracts for React component APIs, custom block schemas, theme tokens, and data binding formats.
- Design and lead delivery of an MCP server enabling AI agents to build, deploy, and operate storefronts.
- Architect CLI tooling and local development workflows for scaffolding, iteration, previews, and production deployment.
- Define deployment, versioning, rollback, sandbox, and preview models for developer-published content.
- Establish documentation standards for both LLMs and human developers across CLI, documentation, MCP, and AI context surfaces.
- Lead architecture for an evaluation harness measuring the correctness of LLM-generated blocks, themes, and layouts.
- Collaborate with senior engineers across payments, authentication, live operations, and catalog to create coherent developer-facing surfaces.
- Set engineering standards, review critical implementation decisions, mentor engineers, and contribute to hiring and technical culture.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional engineering experience with a demonstrated Staff or Principal Engineer track record shaping external-facing platforms, APIs, or developer tooling.
- Deep expertise designing and shipping public APIs and SDKs, including versioning, backward compatibility, and developer ergonomics.
- Expert proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, and React.
- Hands-on experience building CLI tooling and local developer workflows, including scaffolding, hot reload, file-based configuration, and deployment commands.
- Experience with the Model Context Protocol or equivalent agentic tool-use interfaces and building reliable tools for AI agents.
- Experience building globally scalable systems on AWS or GCP with knowledge of containerization, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Ability to create LLM-friendly documentation and API surfaces emphasizing token efficiency, predictability, and schema clarity.
- Strong technical communication skills across RFCs, ADRs, architecture reviews, and leadership discussions.
- Comfort defining structure and architecture in a greenfield environment.
- Preferred experience includes game technology, digital commerce, storefronts, AI-agent-first platforms, MCP servers, LLM tool registries, agent evaluation pipelines, Figma APIs, design tokens, open-source developer tooling, extension marketplaces, sandboxing, schema validation, or technical writing.
