Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of RESTful APIs and Celery-based asynchronous workers for publishing, media processing, SSAI and VAST workflows, imports, and reporting.
- Own the reliability, performance, queue design, deduplication, dispatch patterns, backpressure, and operational logging of distributed systems.
- Drive data and integration decisions involving PostgreSQL, Redis, object storage, and warehouse-backed reporting.
- Lead or significantly contribute to Terraform and AWS changes involving Elastic Beanstalk tiers, IAM, networking, WAF, rate limits, observability, and phased rollouts.
- Improve observability through structured logging, Prometheus-style metrics, Grafana, CloudWatch, and actionable on-call alarms.
- Define testing strategy and operational-readiness checks for critical paths, migrations, and services.
- Represent backend concerns in planning, design reviews, incident discussions, and cross-team technical decisions.
- Establish responsible AI-assisted development practices and guide AI-supported system design, optimization, developer tooling, and observability.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional backend or backend-heavy engineering experience in platform systems, or equivalent depth, with meaningful ownership of large services or platforms.
- Strong Python experience and a record of designing service-oriented systems, APIs, background jobs, idempotency mechanisms, failure handling, and capacity-aware systems.
- Deep hands-on experience with Celery or similar systems and AMQP/RabbitMQ-class message brokers, including retries, heartbeats, queue splits, and operational debugging.
- Strong SQL and PostgreSQL experience, plus practical Redis usage for coordination, rate limiting, circuit breaking, and concurrency correctness.
- Substantial experience with AWS and GCP cloud infrastructure and Terraform.
- Experience with Docker, ECS, Kubernetes, container deployment, multi-cloud networking, and cloud CI/CD is preferred.
- Experience with IAM, TLS for data stores, network egress controls, WAF, rate limiting, and authorization models such as RBAC or ABAC.
- Experience establishing engineering standards, component architectures, development practices, and cross-team alignment.
- Strong written communication, judgment under ambiguity, and the ability to improve team quality while maintaining delivery speed.
- Experience in early-stage or rapidly evolving environments and ideally building products from 0 to 1 is preferred.
- Experience with Druid, BigQuery, large analytical query constraints, media or entertainment, creator economy, CTV, OTT, SSAI, VAST, CDN, or edge processing is preferred.
- Willingness and ability to establish responsible practices for AI-assisted coding and AI-enhanced architecture, optimization, developer experience, and observability.
