Responsibilities
- Design the next-generation account and ledger model using immutable events, derived balances, clear financial semantics, and strong invariants.
- Keep operational balances and financial reports synchronized through posting, adjustments, rollups, drift detection, and self-healing.
- Reconcile billed charges, payer remittances, bank deposits, and financial reports, surfacing discrepancies proactively.
- Scale idempotent and explainable posting and adjustment pipelines using negation and reversal semantics.
- Operate money-critical systems on large Postgres tables, including safe migrations, trigger-driven projections, backfills, observability, and incident response.
- Set standards for monitoring, logging, distributed tracing, dashboards, alerting, SLOs, and safe production rollouts.
- Partner with platform and product teams to protect sensitive customer data and meet security, regulatory, and compliance obligations.
- Own complex initiatives end to end from architecture and implementation through migration, rollout, and production operation.
- Mentor Senior and Staff engineers, lead architecture and design reviews, and raise engineering standards.
- Identify systemic risks and address root causes while balancing security, correctness, reliability, performance, simplicity, and delivery speed.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of Staff-level architecture ownership, mentoring, and cross-team influence.
- Strong backend engineering experience, with Python preferred.
- Deep experience with relational databases at scale, including query performance, ACID transactions, safe migrations, and data integrity.
- Experience designing or operating financial systems, payments, billing, reconciliation, accounting, or ledgering systems.
- Understanding of double-entry accounting, append-only ledgers, idempotency, reversals, and deriving balances from immutable history.
- Production experience with observability, alerting, and incident response for high-stakes workflows.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, including working with operations and customers when correctness matters.
- Healthcare RCM, patient accounting, insurance remittance, AR aging, or practice-management billing experience is a bonus.
- File-based integrations, bank reconciliation, event-sourced or CDC architectures, high-throughput batch pipelines, and evolving monoliths toward domain boundaries are bonus qualifications.
