Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and debug custom Linux kernel drivers and subsystems for free-space optical communication hardware.
  • Architect, build, and maintain Board Support Packages using Yocto Project, Buildroot, or related tools.
  • Optimize Linux kernel and user-space interfaces for real-time responsiveness, low latency, high throughput, and deterministic behavior.
  • Lead bring-up of custom hardware platforms and validate silicon and board designs with electronics engineers.
  • Own the low-level software lifecycle from requirements and architecture through upstreaming, deployment, and long-term maintenance.
  • Expand CI/CD pipelines for hardware-in-the-loop testing and automated kernel builds.
  • Mentor engineers on kernel testing, conduct code reviews, establish coding standards, and maintain software architecture documentation.
  • Track upstream Linux kernel developments, security patches, and real-time Linux technologies.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Extensive industry experience developing Linux kernels and custom character and block device drivers.
  • Deep expertise in embedded Linux, including boot sequences, device trees, memory management, concurrency, and interrupt handling.
  • Expertise with Yocto Project, Buildroot, or OpenEmbedded and deep familiarity with Git.
  • Experience developing and debugging software for SPI, I2C, UART, PCIe, CAN bus, and DMA interfaces.
  • Strong understanding of Linux networking architecture, sockets, Ethernet, TCP/IP, and UDP.
  • Experience with GDB, JTAG or ICE probes, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, ftrace, perf, and printk.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, leadership, and cross-disciplinary problem-solving skills.
  • Passion for low-level software engineering and space technology.
