Responsibilities
- Own the technical design of the AI side, including agent decomposition, orchestration, tool design, memory, and context strategy.
- Build and improve agents for document extraction, matching, recommendations, collections, cash application, deductions, invoice management, and credit risk.
- Define evaluation sets, regression suites, quality metrics, confidence thresholds, escalation workflows, audit trails, and traceable reasoning.
- Select and manage models based on workflow quality, cost, latency, and provider portability.
- Lead, coach, and unblock the AI and agent engineering team while writing production code and solving the hardest agent problems.
- Partner with the Engineering Lead and product management to integrate AI capabilities with the platform and set realistic product commitments.
- Explain agent behavior and decisions to finance stakeholders and support enterprise risk, compliance, and model governance reviews.
Requirements
- 10–14 years of experience in AI, machine learning, or software, including at least three years leading a team.
- Demonstrated ownership of technical design and architecture rather than only implementing an existing design.
- Production experience with LLM and agentic systems, including multi-step workflows, tool use, orchestration frameworks, and large-scale failure modes.
- Experience rigorously evaluating agent quality beyond manual spot checks.
- Strong Python engineering experience shipping production code rather than notebooks.
- Experience with document understanding and information extraction, preferably from messy inputs such as emails, remittance advices, and attachments.
- Classical machine learning expertise alongside generative AI experience, with judgment about which approach fits each problem.
- Sufficient understanding of services, data, and deployment to build agents that fit a broader platform and participate in architecture decisions.
- Experience building AI products for multiple clients rather than one-off delivery for a single engagement.
- Order-to-cash or accounts receivable domain knowledge is preferred.
- Experience with agent observability and tracing tools is preferred.
- Experience taking AI through enterprise risk, compliance, or model governance review is preferred.
