Responsibilities
- Design, build, deploy, and maintain backend services and event-driven pipelines for messaging, notifications, location, and subscriptions.
- Improve reliability, latency, delivery rates, retries, rate limiting, and frequency capping for high-volume messaging and notification systems.
- Integrate and operate Braze, Amazon Pinpoint, Apple and Google push services, and app store billing platforms.
- Own features end-to-end, including planning, design, development, deployment, measurement, and iteration.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Data Science, Marketing, and iOS, Android, and web engineering teams.
- Contribute to A/B tests and use experimentation results to guide product decisions.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, edge-case handling, shared component development, and team-wide engineering improvements.
- Mentor junior team members, new hires, and interns.
- Maintain runbooks, alerting, and monitoring and participate in a reasonable on-call rotation.
- Use AI coding tools such as Claude Code and Gemini and develop subject-matter expertise in a team sub-domain.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver multiple features end-to-end and break complex engineering problems into achievable tasks.
- Strong Java coding skills and working knowledge of microservices and distributed-systems fundamentals.
- Knowledge of data structures, object-oriented design, asynchronous event-driven systems, retries, and idempotent processing.
- Hands-on experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code or similar in a real engineering workflow.
- Ability to write appropriate tests, evaluate trade-offs, consider edge cases, and participate constructively in code reviews.
- BS or MS in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred experience with another modern object-oriented language, TypeScript, Node.js, REST APIs, AWS services, notification and engagement platforms, app store billing, Apache Flink, Kafka Streams, A/B testing platforms, analytics warehouses, LLM-based APIs, Kubernetes, Helm, and CI/CD pipelines.
