Responsibilities
- Design, build, and evolve scalable backend systems using Python and Django.
- Develop and improve frontend experiences using React and TypeScript.
- Create new services, make architectural decisions, and own critical integrations.
- Lead complex initiatives from discovery through deployment and manage solutions throughout their lifecycle.
- Drive engineering excellence through mentorship, architectural reviews, code reviews, and best-practice adoption.
- Partner with Product, Data, and UX teams to identify opportunities, run experiments, and maximize customer value.
- Shape technical direction for complex systems and improve scalability, reliability, maintainability, and developer productivity.
- Navigate ambiguity, evaluate trade-offs, and align technical investments with business and customer outcomes.
- Influence technical direction beyond the immediate team and collaborate with engineers, managers, and stakeholders.
- Use agentic AI in engineering workflows while applying judgment around architecture, business logic, security, quality gates, and safety nets.
- Support observability, reliability, monitoring, and operational best practices, including participation in on-call rotation.
Requirements
- Deep backend engineering expertise with the ability to contribute across the full stack in a role that is approximately 85% backend and 15% frontend.
- Experience designing and evolving large-scale web applications with well-designed APIs, distributed systems, high-volume data flows, and scalable architecture.
- Ability to make sound technical trade-offs balancing short-term delivery with long-term sustainability.
- Demonstrated technical leadership, including influencing technical decisions, driving engineering practices, and contributing to architectural direction.
- Strong product mindset and ability to translate ambiguous business challenges into scalable technical solutions using experimentation, data, and customer insights.
- Ability to independently solve complex technical and product challenges while engaging others effectively.
- Track record of owning initiatives from concept through delivery and measurable outcomes.
- Strong collaboration, stakeholder management, and communication skills across engineering, product, design, and data functions.
- English proficiency at B2 level or higher.
- Experience mentoring engineers, contributing to code and design reviews, and raising engineering quality through knowledge sharing.
- Understanding of observability, reliability, monitoring, and operational practices.
- Hands-on experience using agentic AI and influencing engineering workflows beyond code generation.
- Python experience is not required; experience with Java/Spring, Node.js, Ruby on Rails, Scala/Play, PHP, or Go is also relevant.
