Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop deterministic, safety-critical control software on real-time Linux and embedded microcontroller/DSP targets.
  • Define shared real-time architecture, driver standards, and hardware interface conventions.
  • Implement and optimize motor-control algorithms, including field-oriented control, sensorless control, PWM, and closed-loop current and torque control.
  • Develop low-level drive firmware for synchronized ADC sampling, sensing, feedback interfaces, power electronics, and inverters.
  • Implement estimation, monitoring, protection, and fault-tolerant functions for safe and reliable systems.
  • Build and maintain EtherCAT, CAN/CANopen, EtherNet/IP, and other industrial fieldbus masters and stacks.
  • Develop drivers and interfaces for scientific instrumentation, sensors, and high-speed data-acquisition hardware.
  • Build automated build, test, and validation infrastructure, including SIL and HIL frameworks.
  • Perform safety analyses and validate deterministic behavior, stability, and functional safety under normal and fault conditions.
  • Support integrated system testing, commissioning, deployment, and continuous improvement of production embedded software.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM field.
  • At least 5 years of experience developing embedded, real-time, or low-level systems software.
  • Evidence of exceptional ability through prior projects, portfolios, completed products, or similar work.
  • Production-level experience with C, C++, or Rust.
  • Hands-on experience implementing motor-control firmware for electric motors and drives, including field-oriented control, sensorless control, PWM, and closed-loop current control.
  • Strong control-systems fundamentals covering linear systems, discrete-time control, digital filtering, and state estimation.
  • Hands-on real-time systems and hardware/software integration experience, including deterministic timing, interrupt latency, concurrency, and device-driver development.
  • Ability to perform trade studies and make clear first-principles recommendations.
  • Preferred experience with power electronics, inverters, gate drivers, current-sensing hardware, and motor-control-oriented MCUs/DSPs such as TI C2000 and STM32.
  • Preferred experience with MATLAB/Simulink, auto-generated code, and Python for analysis, test automation, and tooling.
  • Preferred familiarity with observers, Kalman filtering, fault detection, industrial fieldbus protocols, real-time Linux, Xenomai, or other RTOS platforms.
  • Preferred driver and kernel development experience, sensor and data-acquisition hardware bring-up, PCBA bring-up, and low-level communication-protocol debugging.
  • Preferred experience designing fault-tolerant, observable, and testable distributed control systems.
  • Preferred background in safety-critical, high-reliability, or regulated industrial environments such as nuclear, chemical, energy, aerospace, robotics, or semiconductor.
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $150,000–$260,000 annually.
  • Eligible full-time hires may receive long-term incentives in the form of stock options.
  • Medical, vision, and dental coverage are available.
  • 401(k) retirement plan is available.
