Responsibilities
- Design and evolve a partitioned, resilient data architecture for Cursor’s growth.
- Build query attribution and guardrails by instrumenting database queries and preventing problematic queries from reaching production.
- Define data-store selection strategies and golden pathways for engineering teams.
- Own cache infrastructure, including reliability, capacity planning, and cache-correctness patterns.
- Proactively manage backups, monitoring, query performance, and capacity planning.
Requirements
- Deep experience with relational databases at scale, especially Postgres, MySQL, or similar OLTP systems.
- Production experience with database sharding, migration, or decomposition.
- Ability to evaluate storage-engine tradeoffs and guide teams toward appropriate data-store choices.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and interest in building systems used by other engineers.
- Technical interview participation and an onsite small-project discussion are part of the application process.
