Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple medium-to-large connectivity features or service components from problem definition through design, implementation, validation, release readiness, and operational handoff.
  • Define milestones, acceptance measures, dependencies, estimates, and risks for complex customer, product, and engineering goals.
  • Design and document scalable systems across drivers, protocols, client libraries, connectors, and distributed services.
  • Lead root-cause analysis across client/server, protocol, network, authentication, metadata, and distributed-system boundaries using production evidence.
  • Build automated compatibility, interoperability, performance, scale, reliability, observability, and diagnostics coverage while maintaining API and protocol stability.
  • Define migration paths for supported and legacy clients and improve certification, customer experience, and supportability.
  • Collaborate with Product, Query Execution, QA, Support, SRE, Documentation, and external technology partners.
  • Mentor and coach engineers, participate in code and design reviews, improve engineering practices, and contribute to relevant open-source projects.
  • Use approved AI-assisted development tools for code comprehension, debugging, test generation, and documentation while protecting proprietary and customer data.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of production software engineering experience, or equivalent depth demonstrated through sustained ownership of complex systems and substantial team-area features.
  • Deep proficiency in Java, C++, Rust, Go, or another systems or services language, with the ability to work in adjacent languages and frameworks.
  • Experience designing and debugging APIs, protocols, client libraries, drivers, or distributed services.
  • Strong knowledge of data structures, concurrency, asynchronous programming, networking, and failure handling.
  • Ability to solve complex problems across client/server and distributed-system boundaries and turn findings into durable fixes and regression coverage.
  • Experience building unit, integration, compatibility, performance, or reliability tests and working with production CI/CD, packaging, release, certification, and quality controls.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining technical trade-offs, surfacing risks, aligning contributors, and influencing without formal authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach engineers and improve team effectiveness and engineering practices.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Preferred experience includes JDBC, ODBC, ADBC, Apache Arrow, Arrow Flight SQL, SQL engines, databases, data platforms, source connectors, Power BI, Tableau, Excel, OAuth, OIDC, TLS, enterprise authentication, metadata discovery, query pushdown, cross-platform native builds, packaging, release engineering, compatibility certification, observability, production diagnostics, and open-source contributions.
