Base Salary
$138k - $221k/yr
Responsibilities
- Participate in on-call rotations and diagnose and resolve production issues using runbooks and playbooks.
- Design, build, and maintain observability dashboards and alerting based on SLIs and SLOs.
- Operate and improve the Kubernetes-based compute platform.
- Support reliable, scalable systems across AWS and Azure cloud networking and infrastructure.
- Investigate production incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and complete remediation work.
- Review architecture and infrastructure decisions with product engineering teams before release.
- Build automation that reduces manual and repetitive operational work.
- Create and maintain runbooks and documentation for shared on-call knowledge.
- Define non-functional requirements for scalability, availability, and performance.
- Help engineering teams adopt reliability and observability best practices.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and safer, faster software delivery.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on understanding of Kubernetes as a system.
- Practical experience defining and monitoring SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets on real systems.
- Solid AWS or Azure cloud-engineering and networking knowledge, including subnetting and IP addressing.
- Deep experience with at least one of OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or Elasticsearch.
- Strong understanding of a CI/CD system; GitHub Actions is preferred, with TeamCity, Azure DevOps, or GitLab CI also accepted.
- Strong programming skills and the ability to build web applications, ideally using .NET and ASP.NET.
- Equivalent strength in Python with Flask or FastAPI, or Java with Spring, is also considered.
- Experience with distributed systems and failure modes such as retries, timeouts, and cascading failures.
- Strong production troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose issues under pressure.
- 8–10+ years of relevant hands-on experience.
- Database experience is a preferred, non-mandatory qualification.
