Base Salary

$86k - $138k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Co-lead the Architecture Definition Review of a 35-year-old legacy ground system written in Fortran, Ada, C, and C++.
  • Develop and maintain technical architecture documentation and a living knowledge base for long-term system sustainment.
  • Mentor software engineers through modernization and platform rehosting efforts, including AI-assisted workflows.
  • Define software development processes, toolchain standards, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Drive agile practices including sprint planning, peer estimation, backlog management, and Definition of Done enforcement.
  • Direct AI-assisted code comprehension workflows using NASA-approved tools.
  • Develop backend effort estimates based on architecture analysis.
  • Coordinate technical progress and formal review gates with NASA task monitors and program leadership.
  • Lead architecture or software development teams of five or more engineers.
  • Support configuration management, change request processes, and technical documentation for an undocumented or minimally documented legacy system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field and 8 years of experience, or a master’s degree and 6 years of experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and provide proof of citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance and retain access to the government worksite.
  • Demonstrated experience reading, analyzing, and reverse-engineering legacy code in C, C++, Fortran, or Ada.
  • Experience leading formal architecture reviews of systems not originally built by the candidate, including undocumented or minimally documented systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux/Unix-based development environments and relational databases such as PostgreSQL or Oracle.
  • Proficiency with version control systems such as GitLab or GitHub and CI/CD tools such as GitLab CI or Jenkins.
  • Experience with agile or iterative development, sprint planning, backlog management, and Definition of Done practices.
  • Experience using JIRA or an equivalent agile project tracking tool.
  • Experience leading software development or architecture teams of at least five engineers.
  • Experience with formal configuration management, change request processes, and review gates in a government or DoD/NASA environment.
  • Preferred experience includes NASA ground systems, space relay systems, mission-critical ground software, AI-assisted code comprehension tools, Python-based API or RAG code-analysis workflows, Oracle or MSSQL, legacy platform migration, MBSE tools, and Confluence.
  • Familiarity with AskSage or equivalent approved government AI platforms, MagicDraw/Cameo, and technical knowledge management is preferred.
