Base Salary
$79k - $210k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and implement high-throughput DNS data plane components for authoritative and recursive request paths.
- Build and maintain core services and libraries using Go, C, Java, and/or Python.
- Optimize CPU, memory, and network I/O through concurrency models, event loops, socket tuning, and profiling.
- Own data plane components end to end, including architecture, implementation, testing, rollout, observability, capacity planning, and operational health.
- Develop metrics, logs, tracing, SLOs, dashboards, runbooks, and on-call practices.
- Improve reliability through fault-tolerant design, graceful degradation, safe deployments, and proactive capacity planning.
- Partner with control plane, security, SRE, and operations teams on DNS platform improvements.
- Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, code reviews, mentoring, and engineering-standard improvements.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of operations engineering experience in SaaS, cloud, or hybrid-cloud environments.
- At least 5 years managing and operating large-scale, highly distributed service infrastructure.
- At least 3 years of hands-on Linux experience.
- Strong experience building and operating production-grade distributed systems and/or network services.
- Proficiency in one or more of Go, C, Java, or Python, with the ability to work across languages.
- Strong understanding of Linux systems, TCP/UDP, sockets, concurrency, and performance profiling.
- Experience designing highly available systems and performing safe production rollouts using canaries and feature flags.
- Deep DNS knowledge, including RFCs, EDNS(0), DNSSEC, caching, zone transfers, rate limiting, and load balancing, is desirable.
- Experience with epoll/kqueue, asynchronous I/O, low-lock or lock-free data structures, packet processing, DDoS mitigation, abuse protection, and traffic engineering is desirable.
- Experience with Kubernetes, service meshes, network policies, Terraform, unit and integration testing, fuzzing, property-based testing, chaos testing, and mission-critical 24/7 services is desirable.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully while maintaining engineering judgment, code quality, ownership, and security standards is desirable.
