Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage bioinformatics data and pipeline infrastructure, including versioning, deployment, and compatibility across compute environments.
  • Design and develop scalable Nextflow pipelines for omics data, either directly or by guiding others.
  • Design production-grade ETL processes to integrate data into the Bioinformatics platform.
  • Implement pipeline performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and resource optimization processes.
  • Document pipelines, infrastructure, and workflows to support reproducibility and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate with bioinformaticians, data analysts, systems administrators, biologists, and data scientists to align technical solutions with research needs.

Requirements

  • BSc or MSc in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field, with proven experience in a compute platform environment.
  • Proven experience developing and maintaining bioinformatics pipelines in a research or scientific environment.
  • Strong programming and scripting skills with experience writing production-quality, well-documented code.
  • Experience processing large, complex datasets such as genomic, transcriptomic, or phenotyping data.
  • Understanding of bioinformatics file formats, tools, and databases, including FASTQ, BAM/VCF, BLAST, and reference genomes.
  • Experience with workflow management systems such as Nextflow or Snakemake.
  • Experience designing data integration and ETL processes.
  • Understanding of relational and/or non-relational databases for biological data.
  • Awareness of data and pipeline engineering standards and willingness to advocate for best practices.
  • Desirable qualifications include Seqera/Nextflow Tower, biological data modelling, FAIR data principles, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Kubernetes, plant sciences or agriculture, and mentoring experience.
