Responsibilities
- Drive the architectural design and redesign of core Retool backend services.
- Build secure sandboxing and runtime systems using WebAssembly and seccomp filters.
- Own production services running in Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service.
- Build, maintain, debug, and scale backend systems and distributed services.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in critical services.
- Design secure systems and apply security best practices.
- Right-size compute clusters and manage autoscaling groups.
- Build fault-tolerant message queues, worker pools, and distributed value stores.
Requirements
- 6+ years of professional software development experience.
- Experience building, maintaining, debugging, and scaling backend systems and distributed services.
- Strong understanding of security best practices and experience designing secure systems.
- Ability to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in critical services.
- Experience with cloud-based infrastructure such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Experience with Kubernetes, Helm, and Terraform.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across multiple teams.
- Familiarity with TypeScript and Node is a bonus.
- Experience with OS-level containerization and execution environments is a bonus.
- Experience analyzing and addressing unusual workloads is a bonus.
