$232k - $258k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and architect long-lasting systems and engineering artifacts that reduce complexity and improve developer velocity.
- Solve high-impact problems involving low latency, high correctness, reliability, and global scale.
- Lead the development and adoption of organization-wide frameworks and promote high-quality coding and design practices.
- Partner with Product, Science, and Operations to create production-ready technical roadmaps.
- Mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence across the organization.
- Own distributed backend and ML infrastructure systems from design through production debugging.
Requirements
- 9+ years of experience developing ML models to solve business problems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Familiarity with modern AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow.
- Hands-on experience developing foundational models or large language models for large-scale user-facing, marketplace, recommendation, ad-tech, or e-commerce applications.
- Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and the systems and infrastructure needed to train and serve them.
- Experience with MLOps and ML infrastructure, including Kubernetes-based container orchestration, data pipeline design, distributed workflow systems, and large-scale job scheduling.
- Experience owning distributed backend systems in production with high-availability requirements.
- Strong understanding of trade-offs among consistency, availability, latency, and operational cost.
- Exceptional communication skills for explaining complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Benefits
- Base salary of USD $232,000 per year to USD $258,000 per year for San Francisco, Seattle, and Sunnyvale roles.
- Eligibility for Uber’s bonus program and potential equity awards and other compensation.
