Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain monitoring, observability, instrumentation, telemetry, and alerting solutions for complex applications and infrastructure.
- Implement observability coverage for metrics, logs, and traces, including OpenTelemetry-based distributed tracing and telemetry collection.
- Create and maintain actionable dashboards, alert payloads, thresholds, correlations, and escalation workflows using enterprise monitoring tools.
- Collaborate with application development, platform, Level 2, and Level 3 support teams on observability requirements, releases, and process changes.
- Develop automation scripts and improve monitoring, alerting, and operational workflows to increase efficiency and system reliability.
- Validate monitoring coverage, document solutions, troubleshoot complex issues, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
- At least 4 years of experience in a technology organization, including at least 1 year of hands-on engineering experience in monitoring or production operations.
- Strong experience developing instrumentation and alerting for large, complex environments and expertise with at least four listed monitoring tools.
- Hands-on knowledge of observability concepts covering metrics, logs, and traces, plus working knowledge of OpenTelemetry.
- Experience creating dashboards, managing alerts, configuring monitoring tools, and designing scalable and reliable monitoring solutions.
- Experience with Bash or PowerShell scripting and proficiency in one programming language such as Python, C-family languages, or JavaScript.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, prioritization, and cross-functional collaboration skills in complex IT environments.
- Experience with performance tuning, capacity planning, configuration management, and continuous improvement.
- Preferred experience with time-series data, Ansible or Terraform, REST APIs, JSON, ServiceNow, and AWS or Azure cloud monitoring.
