Base Salary
$235k - $260k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own ranking quality and relevance for an LLM-driven retrieval product.
- Design and build crawling, indexing, retrieval, and search-serving systems.
- Reduce latency and cost per query as search volume grows.
- Design, ship, monitor, debug, measure, and iterate on production search services.
- Collaborate with the Head of Search and search team on technical direction and roadmap.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience building and operating production search or retrieval systems, with ranking and relevance as the primary owned discipline.
- A specific example of personally owning a ranking or re-ranking change and demonstrating its numerical impact on a search-quality or business metric.
- Hands-on information-retrieval experience with BM25 and lexical retrieval, semantic/vector retrieval, hybrid retrieval, re-ranking, retrieval evaluation, or RAG evaluation.
- Experience measuring search quality using relevance, recall, conversion, CTR, NDCG, MRR, query satisfaction, or comparable production metrics.
- Strong backend systems programming skills in Go, Rust, Python, or a comparable language.
- Experience balancing relevance, latency, cost, correctness, and reliability in production.
- Ability to set technical direction, work through ambiguity, and ship quickly using iterative measurement.
