Responsibilities
- Own and implement perception pipelines combining sensor fusion, computer vision, and real-time modeling for autonomous tunnel boring machines.
- Build, deploy, and harden collision-avoidance systems involving sensor processing, spatial modeling, collision detection, warnings, and reactive control.
- Implement path planning and constraint-based navigation for confined tunnel environments.
- Integrate autonomy systems from hardware through operations and connect them with control systems for mission-critical reliability.
- Develop designs in the lab, deploy them rapidly, and validate and troubleshoot them in the field.
Requirements
- Extensive experience deploying autonomous robotics in production or battle-tested environments such as industrial automation or autonomous vehicles.
- Expertise with sensing pipelines using LiDAR, cameras, IMUs, and onboard encoders.
- Ability to develop dynamic spatial models, collision detection and prediction, proximity warnings, emergency halts, and other robot reaction logic.
- Extensive computer or machine vision experience, including neural networks, object detection and tracking, semantic segmentation, and real-time processing of noisy, low-visibility data.
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in robotics, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of relevant industry experience.
- Strong programming skills in C++, Python, or similar, with experience optimizing performance in embedded systems.
- Willingness to travel to job sites and work long hours or weekends when necessary.
