$102k - $261k/yr
Responsibilities
- Invent and implement compiler features and advanced optimization passes using LLVM, MLIR, Torch Dynamo, and Triton.
- Develop code-generation techniques for new hardware platforms.
- Design and develop AI software in C++ and Python.
- Optimize AI workloads and design new programming abstractions for AI.
- Collaborate with hardware architects, platform engineers, researchers, and ML developers.
- Identify requirements, plan and design solutions, estimate effort, and schedule deliverables.
- Establish coding standards and patterns and contribute to Microsoft’s inclusive engineering culture.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 2+ years of technical engineering experience coding in C, C++, or Python, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud background check.
- Preferred: master’s degree and 6+ years of technical engineering experience, bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of experience, or PhD and 4+ years of technical software engineering experience, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of programming experience in C or C++.
- 1+ years of experience with optimized systems-level programming.
- Experience building compilers, using LLVM or MLIR, optimizing AI or numerical workloads, or working in numerical high-performance computing.
- Experience with AI frameworks, AI inference systems, AI kernel development, and AI workload optimization.

- Base pay ranges are provided for Software Engineering IC3 and IC4 roles, with location-specific ranges for the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area.
- Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
