Responsibilities
- Build high-throughput scatter-gather systems coordinating queries across hundreds of shards and aggregating results.
- Own search APIs end to end, including interface design, load balancing, circuit breaking, and graceful degradation.
- Optimize networking and JVM performance through connection pooling, request batching, garbage-collection tuning, and profiling.
- Design observability systems using structured logging, metrics, and distributed tracing.
- Build A/B testing frameworks for data-driven experimentation at scale.
- Solve distributed-systems problems involving consistency, availability, latency-tail tolerance, and failure handling.
Requirements
- Proven expertise using Java to build production distributed systems at scale.
- Experience with search infrastructure, scatter-gather patterns, and distributed query execution.
- Networking expertise including HTTP/2, TCP tuning, connection management, and protocol design.
- Experience with Thrift, gRPC, or similar RPC frameworks.
- Experience building logging pipelines, metrics infrastructure, and distributed tracing.
- Experience with load balancing, consistent hashing, adaptive routing, A/B testing, and experiment design.
- Strong collaboration skills with platform engineers, data scientists, and other cross-disciplinary teams.
