Responsibilities
- Own a well-defined engineering project from problem definition through delivery.
- Build and test AI agents, copilots, and automated workflows that perform meaningful multi-step work.
- Connect agents to trusted data, services, and internal tools using retrieval, tool calling, and orchestration approaches.
- Define appropriate agent autonomy and handoff points to human reviewers.
- Evaluate reliability, failure modes, and real-world performance, then improve the work based on feedback.
- Use AI coding tools, write clean and documented code, participate in code reviews, and collaborate with engineers, mentors, and cross-functional partners.
Requirements
- Be a penultimate-year student or a final-year student planning to continue to a one-year master’s course.
- Have a permanent right to work in the UK and be available for full-time work in Manchester for the entire 12-week program from June to early September 2027.
- Be currently enrolled in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related degree program.
- Have proficiency in Python, ideally demonstrated through projects, open source, or hackathon work beyond coursework.
- Have hands-on experience building an LLM-powered or agentic system that performs multi-step work.
- Be familiar with agentic patterns such as grounding, retrieval, tool use, orchestration, memory, or conversational interfaces.
- Understand computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and operating systems or networking concepts.
- Demonstrate sound engineering judgment, problem-solving ability, technical communication, and the ability to deliver incrementally.
- Show curiosity, adaptability, proactive learning, and experience using AI or automation to improve productivity.
