Base Salary
$144k - $194k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain real-time motor-control and actuator firmware from prototype through production.
- Develop and tune nested or hierarchical feedback-control loops, commutation, and current-control systems.
- Participate in hazard analysis, FMEA/FMEDA, fault-tree analysis, safety reviews, audits, and third-party safety assessments.
- Build encoder-calibration, current- and voltage-sensing, filtering, and synchronization pipelines.
- Validate and debug custom motor controllers and sensors during electrical board bring-up.
- Build and maintain hardware-in-the-loop test automation, build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and developer tooling.
- Collaborate with hardware, systems, manufacturing, and safety teams on end-to-end integration and code quality.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of non-internship professional software development experience.
- At least 2 years of non-internship software design or architecture experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Experience programming in at least one software programming language.
- Working knowledge of motor-control fundamentals, including feedback loops, encoders, and current sensing.
- Familiarity with functional-safety principles and translating safety requirements into software constraints.
- Preferred: 3+ years of full software development lifecycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, builds, testing, and operations.
- Preferred: experience with QNX, Linux, multi-core MCU/CPU platforms, and RTOS/Linux integration.
- Preferred: experience with CAN, CAN FD, EtherCAT, SPI, I2C, and RS-485.
- Preferred: understanding of field-oriented control, calibration, filtering, and synchronization.
- Preferred: experience with IEC 61508, ISO 13849, IEC 62304, or ISO 26262 and formally certified safety-critical code.
- Preferred: knowledge of watchdogs, overcurrent protection, brownout detection, and thermal monitoring; a master’s degree is also preferred.
