Base Salary
$145k - $195k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead and champion embedded firmware feature development for power systems products, emphasizing reliability, safety, and maintainability.
- Own subsystem-level firmware architecture, including bootloaders, interrupt architecture, and communication drivers.
- Perform board bring-up and validate digital and analog interfaces, timing, power sequencing, and hardware interactions.
- Integrate sensors, peripheral devices, HMIs, power systems, and control interfaces into product architecture.
- Develop and optimize CAN, SPI, UART, I2C, and other communication layers.
- Create test plans and conduct HIL, SIL, bench, integration, and compliance validation activities.
- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical coaching.
- Serve as a technical interface for cross-functional leads and participate in design reviews and requirements decomposition.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines on integrated system designs.
- Prepare and maintain firmware design documentation, test procedures, and user manuals.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of professional experience developing embedded firmware in safety-critical or mission-critical environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and testing greenfield and brownfield firmware.
- Experience driving integration across hardware, firmware, and software layers.
- Expert-level proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems and bare-metal software architecture.
- Extensive experience with ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers, including STM32 and TM4C, and DSPs such as TMS320.
- Deep understanding of UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, and Ethernet communication protocols.
- Experience developing bootloaders, application firmware, and communication drivers for ARM-based microcontrollers.
- Expert-level experience with IDEs such as Code Composer Studio, build configurations, and debugging build errors and warnings.
- Ability to read schematics, understand PCB layout implications, and collaborate with electrical engineers.
- Expert-level debugging experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and advanced test equipment.
- Experience with Git-based revision control, peer review, and release processes.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to engineering teams, leadership, customers, and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Preferred qualifications include defense-contract experience, clean-sheet embedded system development, firmware architecture leadership, verification strategy development, mentoring, and independent execution of complex projects.
- Willingness and ability to travel to supplier or customer locations as required.
