Base Salary
$210k - $235k/yr
Responsibilities
- Improve JavaScript and TypeScript builds and tests across webpack, Jest, and Vitest, including the Bazel build system, remote caching, and migration away from Nx.
- Build Kubernetes tooling that enables product teams to make routine application changes independently.
- Own the commit-to-production path, including CI, environment promotion through Kargo, verification, and rollback.
- Extend Backstage with plugins connecting deployment, monitoring, and incident data.
- Improve the speed and consistency of local development environments.
- Use build times, CI reliability, lead time, and deployment frequency to prioritize improvements.
- Shape the technical roadmap, lead implementation and adoption, and communicate priorities, progress, and tradeoffs to engineering leadership.
- Lead technical discussions, mentor engineers, and participate in the team’s support rotation.
Requirements
- Staff candidates need 8+ years of software engineering experience; Senior Staff candidates need 12+ years.
- At least 3 years of experience in SRE, infrastructure, build systems, CI/CD, or developer tooling.
- Deep JavaScript and TypeScript build and test experience, including webpack, Jest, or Vitest and diagnosing slow builds and flaky tests at scale.
- Production experience with Kubernetes and containers on GCP, AWS, or Azure, plus CI systems such as CircleCI or GitHub Actions.
- Strong programming skills in TypeScript, Go, or Python, with comfort using shell scripting.
- Experience leading technical projects that required cross-team adoption as a tech lead or engineering manager while remaining hands-on.
- Strong written communication skills for design documents, technical proposals, and migration guides.
- Helpful experience includes Bazel or Nx, Kargo, Argo CD, Backstage plugins, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi.
