Responsibilities
- Drive architecture, design, implementation, and delivery of secure, scalable backend services and full-stack applications deployed on Kubernetes.
- Set the technical vision for the Backend/Full-Stack pillar and evolve Java application services and companion microservices toward pooled multi-tenant architecture.
- Own Python data-processing services and ETL pipelines for large-scale ingestion and transformation.
- Lead API design, versioning, deprecation, and contract stewardship for internal and public Process Intelligence APIs.
- Architect PostgreSQL database consolidation and migrations using Liquibase and connection-pooling strategies.
- Drive integration with distributed query engines and columnar storage for analytical workloads.
- Architect authentication and authorization integrations, including session-based authentication and mTLS service-to-service communication.
- Define SLIs, SLOs, telemetry, rollout strategies, operational readiness practices, runbooks, automation, and on-call ownership.
- Set testing strategy across unit, integration, functional, regression, and performance testing.
- Create architecture documents, design specifications, and test plans; lead design reviews and provide feedback across teams.
- Coach LMTS and SMTS engineers through design and code reviews, manage technical backlogs, and establish engineering standards.
- Participate in hiring panels, technical calibration, and senior-level hiring criteria.
- Represent technical initiatives and architectural trade-offs to engineering leadership, Product, customers, and external stakeholders.
- Own complex enterprise customer integrations and translate customer requirements into durable API contracts.
- Lead severe incident response, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and production remediation.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional software development experience shipping enterprise SaaS at scale and operating in a Principal-level technical leadership capacity.
- Production-level proficiency with both Java and Python.
- Deep experience with Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, Tomcat, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and relational database integration.
- Expertise in relational database architecture, data modeling, schema migration, and query optimization.
- Experience designing multi-tenant SaaS systems with tenant isolation across database, cache, and storage layers.
- Experience operating highly available distributed systems on AWS or comparable cloud platforms, including 99.99%+ availability targets.
- Production expertise with Kubernetes and Docker.
- Expertise in service mesh architectures and mTLS/zero-trust security models.
- Experience leading API-first product strategy, including public API design, versioning, deprecation, and developer experience.
- Experience with Apache Spark, Trino/Presto, Parquet, Iceberg, or similar big-data and lakehouse technologies.
- Experience driving threat modeling and partnering with security and compliance on AppSec, vulnerability management, and AI safety.
- Experience with automated testing using unit, integration, and functional testing practices and tools such as JUnit, pytest, Selenium, and Playwright.
- Experience leading enterprise-scale production incident response, root-cause analysis, observability, resilience, and rollout safety improvements.
- Experience serving as a senior technical contact for enterprise customer integrations and shaping product direction from customer feedback.
- Proven ability to lead initiatives across teams, mentor engineers, and drive architectural alignment.
- Exceptional communication skills with VP-level leaders, Product, external customers, and partners.
- Related technical degree required.
- Preferred qualifications include Python backend and data framework experience with SQLAlchemy, FastAPI, Flask, PySpark, and Pandas; Redis and S3 experience; AI-enabled SDLC automation; Agile, TDD, and zero-downtime deployment experience; and familiarity with process management, process mining, or workflow automation.
