Base Salary
$295k - $345k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the technical direction and ML strategy for matchmaking, connecting Discovery and Search to server placements that improve player experience, developer success, and Roblox growth.
- Define and evolve matchmaking objective functions balancing player and developer utility with system efficiency, including compatibility, latency, engagement, retention, utilization, and compute cost.
- Build models predicting player actions and longer-term outcomes for player-server matches using player history, game characteristics, and live server state.
- Design and productionize candidate-server retrieval, ranking, and assignment algorithms under real-time latency, capacity, and reliability constraints.
- Build and evolve matchmaking data, feature, training, serving, and evaluation systems while maintaining fresh signals and consistency between training and serving.
- Lead engineers through technical direction and mentorship and promote an engineering culture of excellence.
- Partner with Discovery, Search, product, modeling, and data and AI infrastructure teams to develop systems that adapt to each game.
- Define offline evaluations and lead online experiments measuring engagement, retention, developer success, and system efficiency.
- Translate research into iterative production improvements and represent Roblox’s technical work.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience delivering and improving large-scale ML systems for ranking, recommendation, personalization, or resource allocation.
- Experience defining objective functions, building predictive models, and deploying optimization algorithms under production latency, reliability, and resource constraints.
- Ability to break long-term product requirements into iterative deliverable stages and facilitate difficult technical decisions across teams and organizations.
- Deep technical expertise, a generalist approach, and willingness to work directly on data and machine learning problems.
- BS in Computer Science or a related discipline.
- MS or PhD in a related discipline is a plus.
