Staff Software Engineer, Infrastructure
Toast, Inc.Responsibilities
- Architect, deploy, and manage low-latency, highly available storage solutions including RDS Postgres, Aurora Postgres, DynamoDB, OpenSearch, and S3.
- Build and operate scalable compute clusters, high-throughput streaming pipelines, and infrastructure supporting Toast’s product development lifecycle.
- Improve availability, latency, throughput, monitoring, alerting, health checks, and performance across high-traffic systems.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning and compute pipelines for AI-driven product development.
- Right-size compute and storage resources, implement autoscaling policies, and optimize AWS infrastructure costs.
- Operate and tune enterprise relational and nonrelational databases at scale.
- Support containerized environments and orchestration platforms including Docker, ECS, and Kubernetes.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience building and managing scalable AWS cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Fluency in Python, Go, or a similar language for infrastructure automation, tooling, or backend development.
- Deep experience operating and tuning enterprise databases at scale, including relational and nonrelational databases.
- Experience with containerized environments and orchestration tools such as Docker, ECS, or Kubernetes.
- Understanding of Site Reliability Engineering principles, including monitoring, alerting, health checks, and performance troubleshooting in high-traffic environments.
- Preferred experience with Datadog, Prometheus, AI/ML infrastructure support, and cloud cost optimization.
