Responsibilities

  • Translate product and consuming-team requests into scoped functional and technical requirements with acceptance criteria and measurable outcomes.
  • Write design documents and ADRs that evaluate trade-offs involving cost, latency, quality, failure modes, operability, and security.
  • Define service architecture, deployment, and operational boundaries on Azure.
  • Build and operate a queue-driven document-processing pipeline supporting autoscaling, rate limiting, retries, failover, streaming, bounded memory, and high throughput.
  • Profile production systems, run benchmarks and load tests, and optimize latency, concurrency, memory usage, and throughput.
  • Develop primarily in Rust and support customer-facing C#/.NET services.
  • Evolve message schemas, APIs, feature flags, and cross-repository contracts with backward-compatible rollout and rollback plans.
  • Use and evaluate AI coding agents, improve agent instructions and review automation, and verify generated code with tests and evidence.
  • Instrument services, participate in on-call and incident response, conduct blameless postmortems, and implement lasting fixes.
  • Lead high-impact projects from requirements through production, mentor engineers, conduct code and design reviews, and influence technical and product direction.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional software development experience building and operating production backend services in Rust or C++; C++ candidates must be willing to work in Rust daily.
  • Experience leading complex cross-team projects and architecting multi-region or highly available systems.
  • Deep expertise in distributed systems, including message queues, at-least-once delivery, idempotency, backpressure, retries, timeouts, failure detection, and autoscaling.
  • Experience selecting relational, NoSQL, and other storage technologies for specific workloads.
  • Demonstrated performance work at scale involving profiling, benchmarking, memory budgets, concurrency limits, and inputs larger than available memory.
  • Experience producing design documents, ADRs, or RFCs that compare options and drive decisions, and translating ambiguous requests into testable requirements.
  • Strong software fundamentals, including layered testing, security-conscious defaults, incremental delivery, CI/CD, code review, and technical writing.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and participating in root-cause analysis and production ownership.
  • Hands-on experience with agentic development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot.
  • Willingness to join on-call rotation and work in or learn C#/.NET.
  • Preferred: Rust async development with Tokio, typed error modeling, and performance and memory tuning.
  • Preferred: experience with AI coding-agent tooling, MCP servers, multi-agent review, agent-output evaluation, document AI, OCR, PDF internals, file-format conversion, third-party vendor failover, Azure, Kubernetes autoscaling, regulated environments, FedRAMP, HIPAA, CJIS, FIPS 140 cryptography, SBOMs, or dependency controls.
  • Must be located in the United States, be a U.S. Person, and be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.

Benefits

  • Flexible work arrangements, including work from anywhere for up to 8 weeks per year.
  • Flexible vacation, two company-wide mental health days, Headspace access, retirement savings with 401(k) match, tuition reimbursement, employee incentive programs, and wellbeing resources.
  • Health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, paid holidays, sick and safe paid time off, parental leave, sabbatical leave, and employee assistance programs.
  • Fitness reimbursement, flexible spending and health savings accounts, commuter benefits, adoption and surrogacy assistance, a 529 plan, legal identity theft protection, and an employee stock purchase plan.
  • Two paid volunteer days annually and opportunities for pro-bono consulting and ESG initiatives.
  • The posting is for a U.S.-based employee role and closes on 01/31/2027.
