Responsibilities
- Improve and maintain open-source machine learning libraries such as Transformers, Datasets, PyTorch, and vLLM.
- Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable Python library code.
- Help users and contributors adopt and improve the tools through GitHub, forums, Slack, and other community channels.
- Collaborate with researchers, ML practitioners, and data scientists across the open-source ecosystem.
- Foster an active machine learning community and make complex technology more accessible.
Requirements
- Strong Python skills and experience writing clean, well-tested, maintainable library code.
- Deep hands-on experience with a modern deep-learning framework, especially PyTorch; JAX or TensorFlow is a plus.
- Practical experience with the Hugging Face open-source stack, including Transformers, Datasets, and Accelerate, or comparable ML libraries.
- A public, reviewable record of open-source contributions, such as merged pull requests to ML or data libraries.
- Solid understanding of modern machine learning and deep learning, including transformer architectures.
- Experience collaborating with technical communities through GitHub issues and reviews, forums, Slack, or Discord.
- Fluent written English for asynchronous collaboration across a distributed global community.
- Preferred qualifications include open-source project maintenance, contributions to Transformers, Datasets, or Accelerate, distributed training, inference optimization, GPU or accelerator performance work, and model training or fine-tuning at scale.
