Responsibilities

  • Write clean, maintainable, performant C++ code for Unreal Engine game projects.
  • Implement console control systems and large, complex features using extensible architecture.
  • Investigate and improve game and engine performance on target platforms.
  • Design, test, debug, and document code independently, including testing on console test kits and development kits.
  • Review other engineers’ code and provide analysis of design and implementation risks.
  • Own large and mission-critical areas of the codebase.
  • Estimate tasks, raise blockers, coordinate with engineering and non-engineering teams, and deliver features on time.
  • Determine feature feasibility and propose technical and architectural solutions.
  • Mentor engineers and promote software engineering best practices throughout the software development life cycle.

Requirements

  • University degree in engineering, computer science, or a related discipline, or relevant professional experience.
  • For Japan-based candidates, at least 3 years of professional software engineering experience, 2 years using Unreal Engine 4, and 2 years developing console games.
  • For overseas-based candidates, at least 7 years of professional software engineering experience, 6 years using Unreal Engine 4, and 6 years developing console games.
  • Strong C++ skills and debugging experience in Unreal Engine.
  • Experience with clean code, coding patterns, software architecture, optimization, debugging, and end-to-end software development.
  • Experience with Unreal Online Subsystem, Unreal Engine internal systems, or PlayStation and Microsoft development is relevant to the role.
  • At least conversational Japanese proficiency at JLPT N3 or above and English proficiency sufficient for technical discussions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, collaborate, manage time, and give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Preferred: experience with C#, Ruby, Python, Bash, PowerShell, Unreal Engine’s build pipeline, other game engines, or at least one released game.
  • Preferred: familiarity with source code management systems such as Git, SVN, or Perforce.
