Base Salary
$232k - $258k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build end-to-end systems for Uber’s ML training stack.
- Solve scaling challenges involving very large datasets and models.
- Develop tools and frameworks that improve engineering velocity and quality across internal teams.
- Use statistical analysis to diagnose performance regressions and optimize resource utilization.
- Define robust, extensible, and secure architecture and implementation standards.
- Lead large-scale engineering projects from inception through global productionization.
- Provide technical mentorship, review code and designs, and lead engineers.
- Work with Product, Data Science, and Operations to align technical investments with business value.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional experience building scalable, fault-tolerant products or platforms.
- Proficiency in one or more of Go, C, C++, Java, Python, or JavaScript.
- Expertise in deep learning technologies such as distributed training frameworks, LLMs, and GPU optimizations.
- Experience leading large-scale engineering projects through their full lifecycle.
- Experience making complex engineering and business tradeoffs, including buy-versus-build and incremental-versus-rewrite decisions.
- Experience identifying architectural gaps and reducing technical debt across an organization.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred: Master’s or PhD focused on distributed computing, system performance, or machine learning.
- Preferred: experience contributing to open-source projects or leading industry-level technical discussions.
- Preferred: ability to anticipate future business needs and create extensible, modular designs for long-term scalability.
Benefits
- Base salary is USD $232,000-$258,000 per year for San Francisco, Seattle, and Sunnyvale-based roles.
- Eligible full-time employees may participate in Uber’s bonus program and may receive equity awards or other compensation.
- Eligible full-time employees can participate in a 401(k) plan and receive various benefits.
- The role is available in San Francisco, Seattle, and Sunnyvale, with location-specific salary ranges stated.
