Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of scalable, resilient data pipelines into BigQuery from internal systems, APIs, databases, files, webhooks, and event streams.
- Shape the data engineering approach across GCP using BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, Datastream, Cloud Composer/Airflow, Terraform, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Establish engineering standards for data modelling, dbt transformations, testing, monitoring, documentation, deployment, version control, and cost optimisation.
- Partner with firm-wide teams to develop scalable, reusable data products from internal and external sources.
- Embed data security, governance, lineage, access controls, GDPR compliance, least-privilege security, and data quality into solutions.
- Provide technical leadership by reviewing designs and code, mentoring data engineers and analysts, and strengthening team capabilities.
- Make warehouse outputs accessible through Power BI, automation workflows, AI agents, and internal applications.
- Evaluate technology and integration options and make build-versus-buy recommendations based on value, security, scalability, supportability, and cost.
- Champion safe and effective data enablement across Menzies and help shape the Innovation Team roadmap.
Requirements
- Typically 5+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or data platform roles, including senior or leadership-level experience.
- Advanced SQL and Python skills with experience building reliable, production-ready data solutions.
- Strong experience with cloud data warehouses, ideally BigQuery, and working knowledge of GCP.
- Experience with Airflow or Cloud Composer, dbt, Git or GitHub, CI/CD, and Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tooling.
- Understanding of data modelling, dimensional modelling, orchestration, testing, data quality, operational monitoring, and production-grade data pipelines.
- Experience integrating data from APIs, databases, flat files, webhooks, and message queues.
- Knowledge of data security and governance, including GDPR, role-based access, secrets management, and responsible handling of sensitive information.
- Ability to translate ambiguous business challenges into pragmatic, scalable technical solutions and communicate complex concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Collaborative leadership skills with an interest in coaching others and raising engineering standards.
- A degree or equivalent experience in computer science, data engineering, software engineering, mathematics, statistics, or a related technical discipline is beneficial but not essential.
- Google Cloud, dbt, or other relevant data engineering certifications are welcomed.
- Experience in professional services, finance, accounting, legal, tax, audit, or another regulated environment is advantageous but not essential.
