Responsibilities
- Design and build secure, high-volume distributed systems supporting global payment and gifting experiences.
- Own the full product lifecycle, including architecture, implementation, deployment, observability, and on-call operations.
- Lead early development investigations, prototypes, and third-party integrations.
- Reason about consistency, latency, throughput, resilience, failover, and self-healing in distributed systems.
- Lead complex projects from conception through production and collaborate with engineering, design, product, global teams, and external partners.
- Define product objectives with cross-functional partners and communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Evaluate and advocate for technologies and patterns while maintaining engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of professional backend software engineering experience.
- Experience architecting, building, and operating mission-critical distributed systems at large scale.
- Ability to reason about distributed-systems trade-offs and defend technical decisions.
- Experience using generative AI tools throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Proficiency with Java or Kotlin and Spring, including the ability to evaluate, review, and debug code.
- Experience developing and operating high-volume REST and/or gRPC services.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, cloud-native applications, managed internal platforms, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and observability.
- Working understanding of security, privacy, and cryptography, including encryption, tokenization, key management, PKI, certificate management, and JWT.
- Experience optimizing SQL and NoSQL databases such as Cassandra, DynamoDB, CockroachDB, or Oracle.
- Preferred domain knowledge in payments, commerce, gift cards, or financial systems with strict correctness and audit requirements.
- Strong communication, consensus-building, relationship-building, technical influence, perseverance, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
