Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end and functional test strategy for new TV and web player features, including scenarios, release gates, test streams, test data, and upstream dependencies.
- Build and maintain automated feature and performance tests across representative TV devices, measuring playback startup time, rebuffering, memory, CPU, and frame rate.
- Develop test frameworks, harnesses, reusable tooling, test-stream utilities, and reliable services for repeatable test data.
- Improve test automation development using AI-assisted approaches, and collaborate with Netflix test and developer tools teams on workflow capabilities and roadmaps.
- Track coverage, escaped defects, flake rate, performance baselines, runtime, and known issues to prioritize improvements and retire low-value tests.
- Integrate automated tests with build systems and CI/CD pipelines as reliable quality gates.
- Support release and live-event readiness by communicating quality, performance, and reliability risks and participating in player-release on-call rotations.
- Monitor A/B test variants and metrics to validate playback quality and client stability before production rollouts.
Requirements
- Deep experience ensuring the quality of consumer web or device applications at scale.
- Highly proficient in JavaScript and TypeScript, with the ability to build test frameworks, harnesses, and tooling from the ground up.
- Experience improving how teams write tests and applying AI tooling to test generation, failure triage, flakiness analysis, or coverage gaps.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD systems such as Jenkins, Spinnaker, or GitHub Actions, including pipeline debugging.
- Understanding of streaming concepts including adaptive bitrate streaming, DRM, codecs, and browser media APIs such as MSE and EME.
- Experience testing browser and TV-device diversity and validating consistent playback and performance across device generations.
- Experience with performance testing and profiling of client applications, preferably on resource-constrained devices, with stable and repeatable measurements.
- Analytical, data-driven root-cause analysis skills across client, network, and backend interactions.
- Exposure to A/B testing or experimentation workflows.
- Clear communication and cross-functional collaboration skills with engineering, test, release, product, and data science teams.
