Responsibilities
- Design knowledge representations for constraints, transformations, procedures, and guidelines usable by AI agents, deterministic validators, and human curators.
- Build and operate platform services for knowledge ingestion, curation, retrieval, versioning, contextual scoping, and tenant isolation.
- Define how semantic retrieval, deterministic validation, and human review handle applicability, uncertainty, conflicting evidence, and escalation.
- Design and implement reusable APIs and tools for applying, validating, and explaining contextual knowledge.
- Build evaluation suites for retrieval quality, applicability, conflict handling, ambiguity handling, and explanation quality.
- Own substantial technical areas end to end, including security, reliability, observability, performance, compatibility, and tenant isolation.
- Collaborate with domain experts and product engineering teams to convert informal expertise into structured, testable knowledge with provenance, citations, and release practices.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of software engineering experience, preferably including ownership of a platform, API, or shared-services product used across multiple internal teams.
- Strong experience designing, building, and operating production systems in Python, TypeScript, Java, or a similar language.
- Experience building knowledge, retrieval, or rule systems and selecting appropriate formalisms such as schemas, decision tables, rules engines, graphs, or retrieval.
- Practical experience with RAG, information extraction, and structured validation using JSON Schema, Pydantic, or equivalent.
- Sound judgment regarding applicability, exceptions, missing evidence, ambiguity, system refusal, and human review.
- Experience constructing evaluation datasets and clearly documenting modeling decisions, tradeoffs, and failure modes.
- Undergraduate, Master’s degree, or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline.
- Ability to work across a platform team and consuming domain engineering teams while balancing shared and team-specific priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication with technical and business stakeholders.
- Preferred experience with RDF/OWL, SHACL, Datalog, DMN, production rule engines, policy-as-code, agentic systems with tool calling, validation-before-action, multi-tenant SaaS, strict isolation, audit requirements, pharmaceutical or food labeling, legal technology, packaging graphics, or the graphic arts industry.
