Responsibilities

Collaborate with NOAA meteorologists, NWS field offices, academia, and external partners to develop short- to medium-range forecast tools.
Develop meteorological tools for diagnosing and predicting rainfall, snowfall, temperatures, and other hazard information.
Develop web applications using modern industry languages and tools, including tools featuring map data.
Develop and implement verification methods to evaluate new forecaster tools and operational or experimental forecasts.
Use deterministic and ensemble prediction system data to support probabilistic forecasting products.
Transition forecaster tools and web services into NOAA operations.
Develop training materials for new tools and techniques.
Provide analyses, recommendations, scientific publications, presentations, and outreach contributions as appropriate.

Bachelor's degree in meteorology, hydrology, or a related earth science field; an MS or higher is a strong plus.
2+ years of related experience is preferred.
Experience with deterministic and ensemble prediction system datasets and their application to hazardous weather diagnosis and prediction.
Knowledge of short- to medium-range weather forecasting.
Experience supporting software development in a team environment.
Experience with Python and shell scripting in a UNIX/Linux environment.
Some knowledge of GIS, JavaScript, cloud services, and version control systems.
Ability to organize, plan, and complete projects independently.
Excellent written and oral communication skills for documentation and presentations.

Hybrid schedule near College Park, MD, with 2–3 days per week on site and the remainder working from home.
Position is contingent on approved funding and award of funding for the new role.
