Responsibilities
- Design, build, and evolve customer-facing onX Hunt experiences across mobile applications, APIs, backend services, and data systems.
- Own technical solutions from design through delivery, including architecture, performance, scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability decisions.
- Build, support, debug, and continuously improve large-scale systems throughout their lifecycle.
- Partner with Product, Design, QA, and engineers across teams to deliver cohesive customer experiences and manage cross-team dependencies.
- Write maintainable, well-tested code using unit, integration, and acceptance testing.
- Review code, share technical knowledge, and mentor and support other engineers.
- Explore and integrate AI as a repeatable copilot in daily engineering workflows with appropriate validation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least five years of professional software development experience, including at least three years focused professionally on API development.
- Experience building and debugging distributed, scalable microservices architectures.
- Strong knowledge of modern API and systems design and development, supported by a strong computer science foundation.
- Experience with relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL.
- Experience with Go, Elixir, or other functional programming languages.
- Experience with iOS or Android development.
- Ability to evaluate technologies based on merit, stability, performance, debuggability, and maintainability.
- Strong ownership, mentoring, collaboration, customer advocacy, and curiosity about new technologies including AI.
- Permanent US work authorization and willingness to travel occasionally for multiple days to an onX office or strategic location.
- Preferred experience includes GraphQL, Python, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Google Cloud Platform, PostGIS, CockroachDB, event-based workflows, and distributed-team collaboration.

- Base salary range of $130,000–$153,000, annual bonus eligibility, and common share options for full-time employees.
