Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, debug, validate, and maintain embedded firmware for complex hardware platforms.
  • Develop firmware for embedded processors, microcontrollers, management controllers, ASICs, and optical systems.
  • Create low-level device drivers, hardware abstraction layers, control, monitoring, telemetry, diagnostics, and configuration firmware.
  • Support board bring-up, silicon validation, post-silicon validation, and system integration.
  • Develop interfaces using I2C, SPI, UART, MDIO, and other standards-based management protocols.
  • Collaborate with Digital Design, Verification, and Systems teams on firmware-hardware interfaces, architecture reviews, requirements, and specifications.
  • Optimize firmware for latency, throughput, memory utilization, and power efficiency.
  • Create automated validation and regression environments for firmware testing.
  • Debug hardware/software interactions using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and JTAG debuggers.
  • Document firmware architecture, APIs, design specifications, and test procedures.
  • Support customers in resolving complex technical issues and contribute to product bring-up and time-to-market goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of firmware or embedded software development experience.
  • Strong proficiency in C and C++ programming.
  • Experience with embedded real-time systems, firmware architecture, computer architecture, microcontrollers, and embedded processors.
  • Experience with I2C, SPI, UART, and MDIO communication protocols.
  • Experience using Git and strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Preferred experience with networking, data center, telecom, semiconductor, high-speed interface, ASIC, FPGA, custom silicon, or optical networking products.
  • Preferred familiarity with silicon bring-up, post-silicon validation, silicon photonics, CMIS management interfaces, Linux device drivers, embedded Linux, secure boot, firmware update mechanisms, and reliability features.
  • Preferred scripting experience with Python, Perl, or Tcl and familiarity with firmware verification and automation.
