Responsibilities
- Build and ship iOS client features for WhatsApp with a focus on performance, reliability, and responsiveness.
- Own iOS client architecture for payments, commerce, and money-centric services surfaces.
- Develop across Swift, Objective-C, and the iOS SDK while partnering with server and platform teams on API design.
- Set technical direction and goals, lead major initiatives, and drive cross-functional efforts to completion.
- Architect scalable systems, resolve performance and scalability issues, and reduce technical debt.
- Own significant components, features, or systems with expert end-to-end understanding.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship, onboard team members, and raise the engineering bar.
- Collaborate with product management, design, data science, operations, payments, legal, compliance, and local operations teams to ship reliable and compliant services in India.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of programming experience in a relevant language, or 4+ years of experience with a PhD.
- Experience driving organizational change and leading complex technical projects.
- Experience using data and analysis to explain technical problems and provide detailed feedback and solutions.
- Experience building complex iPhone or iPad applications with Objective-C, C++, Swift, the iOS SDK, and other frameworks.
- Experience with multithreading programming, mobile memory management, high-cadence releases, and strong attention to detail.
- Experience building for the Indian market, including familiarity with UPI and India's digital payments ecosystem.
- Experience building payment systems at scale and handling their reliability, correctness, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience with monetization, payments, commerce, or AI/ML products; zero-to-one product development; global or emerging-market products; distributed teams; or messaging and mobile-first consumer products.
- Experience integrating AI tools, applying responsible and ethical AI practices, and developing skills in prompt/context engineering or agent orchestration.
