Responsibilities
- Own Aetna Technology’s AI reference architectures for model serving, multi-model orchestration, retrieval, and evaluation across AWS-primary and multicloud infrastructure.
- Define agentic architecture, including orchestration contracts, domain agents, reusable skills layers, and API/MCP integration patterns.
- Create and maintain paved-road golden patterns for building, serving, and evaluating models and agents.
- Embed responsible-AI guardrails, evaluation, safety controls, and sensitive-data protections including PHI into AI platforms.
- Define model benchmarking, selection, retesting, instrumentation, usage telemetry, labor-redeployment signals, and AI ROI measurement.
- Partner with platform and finance teams on cost-aware AI architecture and unit economics.
- Author automated AI standards and governance gates, contribute to architecture reviews and technology radar input, and evaluate emerging models, frameworks, and agentic tooling.
- Translate architecture trade-offs for senior leaders, coach Solution Architects and senior engineers, and influence strategic vendors and platform teams without direct reports.
Requirements
- 12+ years of technology experience with deep, hands-on AI/ML platform and solution architecture experience at Aetna Technology scale.
- Expert command of model serving, multi-model orchestration, retrieval, and evaluation on cloud platforms, with AWS as the primary platform and GCP/Azure familiarity preferred.
- Demonstrated ownership of AI reference architectures and paved-road or golden-path patterns for model and agent development.
- Hands-on experience designing agentic systems, including orchestration, tool or skill layers, and API/MCP integration patterns.
- Strong grounding in responsible AI, model evaluation, and guardrail design.
- Track record of driving technical outcomes through influence and design authority as an individual contributor.
- Experience in healthcare, health insurance, or similarly regulated industries is preferred.
- Familiarity with FinOps, cost-aware AI architecture, AI ROI and adoption instrumentation, infrastructure-as-code, and automated policy or guardrail enforcement is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
