Base Salary
$170k - $265k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the onboard live-map estimator, fusing HD map priors with live perception into a real-time world estimate.
- Build map change detection for boundary shifts, stop-line changes, road closures, and other map-perception divergences.
- Define planner-facing map trust contracts, including confidence semantics, degraded-mode behavior, and operating points.
- Build ground-truth, evaluation, metrics, and regression-testing pipelines to maintain estimator and detector quality.
- Implement estimation code in modern C++ that meets real-time budgets on embedded compute.
- Extend the system to aggregate fleet drive-log detections into map freshness and correction pipelines.
- Define system architecture and interfaces and negotiate contracts with consumer teams.
Requirements
- 5+ years of production software development experience, including ownership of at least one shipped estimation-core system.
- Production experience with state estimation fundamentals such as factor graphs or filtering, data association, uncertainty representation and propagation, and 3D geometry and transforms.
- Experience fusing heterogeneous sources such as map data, perception output, and raw sensors into a unified world estimate with rigorous error characterization.
- Strong modern C++ skills and experience meeting real-time budgets on embedded compute.
- Experience building ground-truth or metrics pipelines and using them to maintain shipped operating points and prevent regressions.
- Ability to reason about uncertainty, graceful degradation, catastrophic errors, and safety-relevant system design.
- Experience defining systems and interfaces and negotiating contracts with consumer teams.
- Preferred: map change detection or lifelong mapping experience; HD map semantics including lane graphs, topology, and map formats; GTSAM or comparable factor-graph frameworks; Lie group methods; degraded-mode or integrity-monitor design; or an MS/PhD focused on state estimation or SLAM.
