Responsibilities
- Develop high-performance full-stack applications using Python and modern JavaScript frameworks.
- Build backend services, data pipelines, and user-facing web applications for biological data workflows.
- Use generative AI tools and LLM-based assistants to improve development productivity and code quality.
- Collaborate with scientific, operational, and other domain experts to build secure, high-integrity biological data and surveillance systems.
- Influence the technical roadmap and address technical debt and architectural bottlenecks.
- Design and implement CI/CD pipelines with mandatory automated unit, integration, and security testing.
- Lead technical design reviews and uphold standards for modularity, documentation, observability, and maintainability.
- Monitor and troubleshoot production systems, improve reliability, and provide off-hours on-call support.
Requirements
- 6–8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant full-stack development and ownership of complex systems and cross-team technical initiatives.
- Strong Python proficiency for backend development.
- Experience building and consuming REST and/or GraphQL APIs.
- Experience developing modern web frontends with JavaScript or TypeScript and frameworks such as React.
- Experience integrating AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Cursor into daily workflows.
- Experience translating complex genomic, diagnostic, or epidemiological data into robust software solutions.
- Knowledge of data structures, system design, version control, and modern CI/CD patterns for automated testing and deployment.
- Preferred experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, public health, or a related domain.
- Familiarity with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, data pipelines, workflow orchestration, analytics platforms, and regulated or sensitive-data environments such as HIPAA.
- Ability to demonstrate ownership, independent execution, flexibility, and comfort with evolving requirements.
