Responsibilities

  • Survey small language models and on-device inference runtimes and assess their ARM CPU performance, function-calling capabilities, and NPU readiness.
  • Select and optimize a small language model of approximately 0.5–3B parameters.
  • Design the hybrid architecture, including routing, fallback logic, confidence thresholds, and exchange of recognized text, intents, and responses.
  • Integrate the language model as an Android Automotive service with an AIDL interface.
  • Implement function calling toward infotainment and vehicle functions while excluding high-risk functions from voice control.
  • Benchmark performance on target hardware and analyze effects on HMI rendering, display composition, audio, and other IVI functions.
  • Compare the hybrid solution with the existing voice engine using task success rate, request resolution share, latency, and resource usage.

Requirements

  • Currently studying toward a master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems, or a related field.
  • Enjoys programming and is curious about AI and software development.
  • Experience with C, C++, R, or Java is helpful.
